Fortescue Zero Racing has signed rising star Taylor Barnard as the first driver for its new team, ahead of the 2026/27 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
The 22 year old British driver joins Fortescue Zero Racing after a breakthrough Formula E campaign with DS PENSKE, where he became the youngest driver in championship history to win a race, take a pole position, score a podium and earn World Championship points.
Barnard has six Formula E podiums, two pole positions and one race win from 36 starts and will form part of Fortescue Zero Racing’s debut line-up as the team prepares to join the world’s most competitive electric racing series.
“I’m incredibly excited to join Fortescue Zero Racing and be part of building something from the ground up,” Barnard said.
“This is a new team with a huge amount of ambition, and I want to help turn that ambition into results on the track.”
“Fortescue Zero has a strong history of developing high-performance electric technology, and I’m looking forward to working with the team and helping push that technology further and faster than
ever before. We know there is a lot of hard work ahead, but that is exactly what makes this opportunity so exciting. I can’t wait to get started.”
Fortescue Zero Racing Team Principal Jim Wright said, “Taylor is exactly the kind of driver a new team wants to build around. He has already shown that he has the speed, discipline and race-craft
to compete at the front of Formula E.”
“Barnard is young, hungry and has a huge amount of potential. Just as importantly, he understands how to work with engineers and extract every bit of performance and efficiency from the car."
“We are building a new team with serious ambitions. Taylor is the first piece of that picture, and we are excited to see what we can achieve together.”
Fortescue Zero Racing is planning to be the first Australian-owned outfit to compete in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
Fortescue Zero has a long and successful motorsport heritage, from its roots in the Williams Formula 1 organisation to becoming an in-demand, high-performance engineering business
working at the cutting edge of electrification.
Technologies developed by Fortescue Zero engineers have helped redefine electric performance on the racetrack and are now being applied across commercial electric vehicles and heavy
industry.
Fortescue Zero Racing’s first season will mark the next chapter in Fortescue’s motorsport and technology journey – from the pit lane to the grid, and from the racetrack to the real world.
Fortescue Zero Electromobility Chief Technology Officer Travis Hester said “Formula E is won at the intersection of driving performance, energy management and engineering precision. Taylor
brings all three.”
“He is a driver who can help us compete today while also helping our engineers develop the technologies that will power the next generation of electric innovations.”
