Role: Exploration Manager - Morocco (Open to both local & international candidates)

 


Work Location: Marrakesh Exploration Office, Morocco - Residential Hire 

 


Roster: Monday to Friday, with extended field supervision as required 

 


Fortescue is actively expanding its global critical metals portfolio with an exploration footprint spanning Australia, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Canada and Kazakhstan. The Kingdom of Morocco represents the next stage of that growth with strong potential in both metals and energy. 


The newly created role: Exploration Manager – Morocco, offers an outstanding opportunity join the ground floor of a new country entry and have a significant impact on building a team, and constructing and exploring a portfolio spanning large parts of the country. 


Reporting to the Head of Exploration Kazakhstan and Morocco, the Exploration Manager - Morocco will lead a large team of geologists and supporting field services in the execution of large-scale exploration campaigns throughout the Kingdom of Morocco.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

•    Oversee large scale, rapid exploration works targeting a variety of deposit styles including MVT type, IRGS, Sediment hosted copper, VMS, SedEx, orogenic and epithermal gold; in remote and challenging environments.
•    Working closely with the Global geoscience team, oversee the planning and execution of geophysical and geochemical programs.
•    Plan and execute diamond, RC +/- AC drill programs.
•    Lead a large team of geologists and field services, ensuring that exploration programs are delivered on plan, on budget and adhere to the highest standards of safety.
•    Ensure a high standard of reporting and compliance with Fortescue procedures and Kingdom of Morocco laws, and with respect to land access, community and heritage.
•    Ensure all projects are assessed, ranked, prioritised and resourced appropriately.
•    Working closely with the head of exploration for the region and the corporate development team, work to identify new greenfield and advanced opportunities for acquisition or various form of joint venture to strengthen and advance the exploration portfolio towards discovery/success.
•    Build and maintain an effective competitor monitoring database and position the Morocco exploration team to act fast when opportunities arise.
•    Build and maintain good relationships with government, local vendors, competitors and potential partners

Qualifications and Experience

 

•    Minimum 15 years’ experience with a proven track record supervising large scale exploration campaigns and teams.
•    Experience in the exploration for sediment hosted copper, IRGS or MVT type systems, with breadth of experience across multiple deposit styles an advantage.
•    Demonstrated prior experience in execution of large-scale diamond and RC drill campaigns.
•    Experience performing, and supervising field mapping and stream/soil geochemical campaigns.
•    Proven ability to effectively lead teams spread over multiple project areas, and oversee 8 figure budgets
•    B.Sc. (honors) or above in Geoscience. Higher degree in a discipline related to NW African geology or related deposit types will be highly regarded.
•    Any level of fluency in French, Arabic or Berber will be highly regarded.
•    Must be willing to relocate to Marrakech, Kingdom of Morocco
