Fortescue has partnered with Bloodwood Tree Association to help more people in Port Hedland gain the skills, confidence and support needed to get their driver’s licence.

The two-year, $160,000 partnership will support the continuation and expansion of Bloodwood’s Driver Training Program, helping reduce one of the key barriers to employment, education and independence in the Pilbara.

Through the program, participants receive practical driver education, supervised driving opportunities, mentoring and wraparound support, with Fortescue’s funding enabling more evening and weekend sessions.

Fortescue’s Director Approvals, Communities and Services, Rosli Wheelock said: “Getting your driver’s licence is a significant milestone that brings with it a sense of freedom. For people in the Pilbara, it can also provide greater access to employment and education opportunities.

“By supporting a locally led and culturally responsive initiative, we’re investing in a practical, community-driven solution that delivers measurable outcomes for individuals, families and the wider community.”

Bloodwood Tree Association Acting CEO Kelly Gould said: “Demand for driver training support remains strong, and this partnership with Fortescue gives us the ability to expand when and how the program is delivered.”

“By offering more evening and weekend sessions, we can better support people who are balancing work, family and other commitments, and help them keep progressing towards their licence.”

Bloodwood Tree Association is a trusted community organisation delivering culturally appropriate support services for vulnerable and disadvantaged community members across Hedland. Through its Driver Training Program, Bloodwood helps participants overcome barriers to obtaining and retaining their driver’s licence, supporting stronger workforce participation and community outcomes.
