Location: Hedland Operations – Port Hedland, on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people.

 

Roster: 4 days on / 3 days off – FIFO ex Perth or Residential in Port Hedland (also 5 days on / 2 days off roster option for those residential based in Port Hedland)

At Fortescue, we know that today’s smart planning is tomorrow’s plant reliability. We’re seeking a forward-thinking Long Term Project Planner to join our Hedland Operations team. Reporting to the Senior Long Term Planner, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring our maintenance and shutdown strategies are set up for long-term success.

 

This isn’t just about preparing work orders—it’s about looking ahead, optimising resources, and creating strategies that drive the reliability and longevity of our assets. Your work will directly influence the performance, efficiency, and sustainability of our operations for years to come.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of annual CAPEX forecast for PDM4 like-for-like replacement programs of work
  • Partner with planners and stakeholders to identify and forecast future capital investment requirements.
  • Manage and control CAPEX project budgets, forecasts, and expenditure throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Create and maintain SAP project structures, including WBS elements, cost codes, and funding allocations from various departments.
  • Monitor project financial performance, identify variances, and provide cost reporting and recommendations in monthly meetings.
  • Support project governance through the preparation and management of DCRM, funding approvals, and project close-out documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with CAPEX governance, financial controls, and reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Planners, Operations, Engineering, and Finance teams to support successful project delivery.
  • Maintain accurate project cost data and deliver timely financial reporting, forecasting, and accrual processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement in CAPEX planning, forecasting, cost management, and reporting practices.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Experience in project controls, cost engineering, project planning, or financial management.
  • Strong SAP experience (Work Orders, WBS, Projects, Cost Reporting).
  • Budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis experience.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Ability to interpret financial and operational data.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.

Desirable

  • Experience in fixed plant maintenance.
  • Knowledge of shutdown planning and execution.
  • Understanding of CAPEX governance and project lifecycle management.
  • Experience with DCRM, project controls, or capital portfolio management.
