Our Opportunity
Work Location: Fortescue’s Solomon mine is located on the traditional lands of the Eastern Guruma and Yindjibarndi peoples.
Roster: 8D/6R - FIFO ex Perth (B Crew)
Reporting to the Solomon Resource Definition Superintendent, the Senior Geologist will be responsible for leading a team of geologists to ensure the safe and timely delivery of various drilling programs.
A successful candidate will be someone who fosters and maintains a strong and enthusiastic workplace culture in addition to promoting growth and development of team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to Fortescue’s vision and values to inspire a large team with the support of the Superintendent
- Maintain a strong field presence to maintain the visible leadership within a large team, promoting safe work practices from contractors and Fortescue staff with the support of the Drill Compliance and HSES teams
- Develop, manage, and execute drilling and earthworks schedules to provide timely data delivery for model generation required by the different planning teams (2YP, 10YP and LOM).
- Liaise with various stakeholders (Resource Estimation, Geometallurgy, Dewatering, Mine Planning teams) to ensure works are completed as efficiently as possible
- Coordinate and execute daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly work plans and ensure that they are consistently aligned with meeting operational targets
- Supervise logging and sampling of RC programs, with the support of QAQC geologists
- Validation of data, reports and geological models, with the support of Project Geologists
- Contribute to continuous improvement of the department by identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement
- Support the Superintendent in meeting company objectives
Qualifications and Experience

- Positive attitude and calm under pressure, with well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
- Solutions based mindset requiring critical thinking and proactivity
- Proven experience in a leadership position, with current S26 competencies or enrolment
- Solid understanding of RC drilling, QAQC, downhole geophysics and earthworks
- Competent with Vulcan/Leapfrog, ArcGIS and acQuire.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Tertiary qualification in Geology
- Experience with contractor management, project planning and execution
- Class C manual WA driver’s licence
